Real Grooms: Kyle Fryman and His Smokin’ Hot Bride

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

Back in March, we introduced you guys to Storymix Media and gave away one of their fantastic Flip Video Wedding Packages. The winning groom was Kyle Fryman… and this is his wedding (My Flip style):

As you can see, My Flip Wedding is a different breed of wedding videography. As opposed to a weird guy running around with a camera and bright light, the footage is captured by your buddies (which means you’re guaranteed to get all of the offbeat moments that are going to make watching your wedding video a little more bearable year after year.) Additionally, all of the editing is shared with you online so the final product includes only the shots that YOU want. In other words, your best man’s keg stand attempt and your sister’s embarrassing wipe out on the dance floor aren’t going to be left on the cutting room floor.

Kyle and his cigar smoking bride, Brittany, will certainly be sharing laughs as they look back on their big day. As she put it, “we are so happy that the moments that would have long been forgotten, were caught on video. I think everyone had fun filming and being filmed and we can’t wait to see the DVD!”

To learn more about this groom-approved rage that is tearing up the wedding industry, check out the My Flip Wedding website and start building your package. Pricing starts at just $99.99 (which you’ll appreciate if you’ve already started pricing videographers). Storymix wants as many of our readers as possible to get a cool video like Kyle (and avoid a lifetime with a wife who regrets not having one).  So, they’re offering a 20% coupon; just click here for the code.  You can get a video for only $80, SCORE!  But hurry, it’s the last coupon they’re offering this summer and it expires on August 31st (but can be applied for any wedding date).

Real Grooms: Marc Stumbo & My Flip Wedding

Monday, April 18th, 2011

The last time we posted on Storymix Media, it was to introduce their My Flip Wedding service and run a contest for a free $225 package. We’d like to take this time to congratulate Kyle Fryman for winning that prize.

Another GroomsAdvice reader, Marc Stumbo, read that initial post and thought My Flip Wedding was a perfect way to capture his wedding memories. One of the wedding gifts that he and his bride had received was dancing lessons. Since a group of friends had chipped in to pay for this gift, it suddenly became uber-important to capture all of the new dance moves on video. Marc thinks the gift paid off. He told us that “the private lessons were enough to make us look like we knew what we were doing.”

Take a look at their My Flip Wedding trailer video and tell us if Marc is right – or if they need some more lessons!

We can’t say enough about how impressed we are with the My Flip service from Storymix. Even if you’re planning on hiring a professional videographer, we think My Flip is a great way to capture your guests’ accounts of the wedding (which often differ from yours). One of the big plusses is that you can decide how long the final video is by selecting the included scenes – which will help you avoid spending two hours every anniversary re-watching a three hour video. Score!

We’d love to get some reader feedback on what the  ideal length for a wedding video is. Assuming that you’ll also be getting the raw footage to save, which of these options sounds best for length of the finished video:

1-2 minutes
5 minutes
15-20 minutes
30 minutes
1 hr
2 hrs

If you’ve got a second, please post in the comments section and let us know your answer — we’d really appreciate it!

[giveaway] Your Wedding Video: Unrated

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

Fact: many couples don’t hire a professional videographer.  If you asks past grooms why that is, the answer you’ll most likely get is that they don’t want to spend the money. In reality, it’s because they want don’t want a video that captures the “boring” moments of the wedding… they want one that captures the offbeat, unique memories that their friends experienced. One that features their bride dancing on a table at the end of the night or their Best Man downing a shot of tequila as he tries to sweet talk a bridesmaid. You know, the unrated version. With so much going on during the festivities, it’s easy to miss some of these hidden moments.

Lucky for you, our friends at Storymix Media have launched a new service called My Flip Wedding to help couples easily capture and re-live the best moments from the entire wedding experience – from bachelor party through honeymoon. The process is simple.   Storymix sends Flip cameras for you and your guests to shoot video throughout the wedding experience. After the wedding, you send the cameras back in the provided pre-paid box and Storymix turns the footage into a cool 15-20 minute highlight video with the scenes you want. [editor's note -  it's great because grooms can exert some control over what will be filmed by putting the cameras in the hands of their buddies.]  And the best part of all, prices start at only $99.99.

Take a look at this sample Flip Wedding footage (and pay special attention to Grandma’s beer pong challenge).

Today, we’re thrilled to announce that we’re teaming up with Storymix Media to provide one lucky couple with a free My Flip Wedding package worth $225. To enter, go to http://storymixmedia.per.fm/the-man-registry-contest and enter your first name, last name, wedding date and e-mail address.

For an additional entry:
1. “Like” either The Man Registry or Storymix Media Facebook page and leave a comment on the page letting us know how bad you want to win.
2. Leave a message (with a valid e-mail address) in the comments section below telling us what the three scenes you’d want captured from your wedding are.
3. Post this tweet to your Twitter account: I want my wedding video UNRATED with help from @storymixwedding and @themanregistry http://bit.ly/h1pv6k

The contest ends March 25, so enter today!

Is Wedding Officiant Becoming a DIY Role?

ring exchange

By Guest Blogger: OneWed.com

As more and more people move away from religious weddings, the idea of asking a friend or family member to officiate at the wedding has become more and more popular.

There are some pros and cons to hiring a friend for this important role.

Pro: You have more control over the ceremony.
Con: You have more control over the ceremony, meaning you have to write it yourself. All of it.

Pro: Your friend is a friend, no chance he’ll mispronounce your name, or include a religious sentiment you fine offensive.
Con: Your friend is a friend, meaning he isn’t an objective professional. Really, is he going to tell your fiancée that having three readings, a sand ceremony, and a unity candle is too much?

Pro: No unwanted, unsolicited advice about your relationship.
Con: Um, actually this is pretty much just a pro. Unless of course, you think you could use some help in this area, in which case, no reason not to consider couples counseling.

If you do decide to ask a friend to perform your wedding, make sure to choose wisely. Choose someone who is comfortable with public speaking, knows how to ad-lib when necessary, and takes direction well.

OneWed’s Local Flavor: The Best and Worst Places to DIY

bigstockphoto_Wedding_Savings_Fund_478109By Guest Blogger: OneWed.com

When looking at your wedding budget it’s tempting to say, “Hell, I can do that myself and save a few hundred dollars.” If your fiancée is crafty, it may be even more tempting for her to say, “That would be fun to make myself, and save a few hundred dollars.” Remember though, what you save in money you usually lose in time.

Every bride and groom has to make their own decisions about what they can do on their own and what requires a professional but a few general guidelines about when to put a  professional under contract always hold true. (1) If it’s something you or your fiancée has always dreamed about having, hire a professional. (2) If it’s an integral part of having a kick-ass party, hire a professional. (3) If it requires anyone involved in the wedding to work the day of the wedding, hire a professional.
