Hoppily Ever After: Craft Your Own Custom Wedding Brew at the Four Points by Sheraton LAX

Tuesday, September 10th, 2013

Beer lovers, rejoice! Thought to be the oldest fermented beverage, beer’s ancient beginnings have grown into a modern mainstay that’s more popular than ever. Whether you have a favorite brand or microbrew, like to brew your own beer at home, or simply love the taste of beer, the Four Points by Sheraton Los Angeles International Airport has created a unique wedding package for beer-loving couples.

With the hotel’s new Hoppily Ever After offer, the Four Points by Sheraton LAX has partnered with California-based craft microbrewery Enegren Brewing Company to enable couples to develop a signature wedding beer recipe, complete with a hands-on brewing experience.

We recently chatted with the Phil Baxter, the hotel’s general manager, to get the low-down on the new program.

How did you come up with this custom wedding day beer offer?
Beer has become the new wine. I went to a beer camp and became friends with a lot of brewers. I talked to them about what kinds of beer we wanted to brew at the hotel and it was a really fun process. I knew that brewers, whether home or commercial brewers, love to brew a custom beer for their weddings and it seemed like the right thing to do. We’re the first hotel to offer this package, and there’s no reason we couldn’t extend it to other Four Points by Sheraton locations . This is really about providing a customized experience for our clients.

How did you choose your brewing partner for the program?
Los Angeles is full of small breweries, but capacity and volume was an issue. We talked to Enegren Brewing Company and fortunately, they had a two-barrel pilot system for test batches that was perfect for this idea.

Beer: it’s what a groom should be focused on.

What does the package offer couples?
Available to couples who book a wedding reception at Four Points by Sheraton Los Angeles International Airport, couples will receive 30 gallons (or about 150 glasses) of specially-brewed beer to be served on their wedding day at the hotel, a complimentary, newly-renovated guest room, round-trip transportation to the brewery for five people, a consultation with Enegren’s brewers to determine the flavor and style of beer, a tasting session, hands-on brewing instruction for two and personalized jumpsuits for the couple to wear during the brewing process. The other guests can watch the couple brew their beer from a large window. Couples can also name their beer, which could be really fun.

Do couples need any prior brewing experience?
No; Enegren’s expert brewers will consult with and instruct the clients to decide on a flavor based on their personal preferences and make suggestions about what tastes good. The brewing staff will explain everything to the clients and answer any questions. Clients can also sit down with our hotel bar’s director of brewer relations to review and sample styles and flavors at our on-property Brewster’s-a Beererie.

What does the Hoppily Ever After package cost?
This package is available year-round from $1,500 to $2,000 for up to 30 gallons of wedding day beer. The program must be booked three to four months in advance to ensure the brewing process is complete by the reception date. Wedding receptions at the hotel begin at $65 per person; alcohol additional.

Lamar Odom’s Bachelor Party

Monday, September 28th, 2009

New groom Lamar Odom enjoyed one of his last nights of freedom on September 24th partying in Los Angeles. The guest list included Girls Gone Wild creator Joe Francis, Scott Disick and Robert Kardashian. The group had dinner at STK Restaurant before finishing the night at Guys and Dolls Nightclub.

We’re personally a little disappointed that Lamar didn’t drop in and pick up a tuxedo t-shirt for the party. Hell, we would have even poured him bachelor shots in our Lakers shot glasses. Oh well, there’s always next marriage.
