The Ultimate Bachelor Party Challenge

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

A good bachelor party doesn’t let the groom-to-be get through the night easily. Creating several “challenges” for the groom to attempt throughout the night is a great way to add to the overall fun of the evening. Because, honestly, what bachelor party guest doesn’t want to watch the groom try to get random girls to sign his t-shirt?

We were recently informed that The Man Registry’s top selling product has spawned a bachelor party game all of its own. The Maxam 64oz. Jumbo Flask is certainly an eye-catcher that lots of grooms are giving as groomsmen gifts. However, in this instance, the flask is for the groom. The challenge (or death sentence) is for the groom to start the night with a full jumbo flask and finish it by the end of then night. He has to drink the entire flask himself UNLESS he can get phone numbers from girls. If he is successful in doing that, he is allowed to pour her a shot. **NOTE This girl is not chosen by the groom, but rather the groomsmen which makes for a nice little twist.

Drink up!

Drink up!

We didn’t believe this when we heard it, but we did some research and actually found some bachelor parties where this game has taken place. Now, that’s what we call bachelor party entrepreneurship.

Not keen on this challenge, check out 25 other bachelor party challenges that are sure to keep things interesting.

Guy Wedding Movies?

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

I don’t know about all you guys out there, but I loved Bride Wars! The movie had it all – laughs, tears, and love! An instant classic. I can honestly say that I’ll be lining up to buy it on the day it hits Blu-ray…….

Bride Wars? Loved it.

Bride Wars? Loved it.

Sorry, my wife was standing over my shoulder making me type that. She’s gone now. Yes, she made me go see Bride Wars. It was her turn to pick, there was nothing I could do about it. The movie actually did have it’s high points (Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson), but as a whole it wasn’t much for a guy to get excited about. As I sat there watching Liv and Emma battle for wedding supremacy , I got to thinking – why aren’t there more wedding movies geared towards men? In fact, I could only think of a few that would even be acceptable for a man to watch:

Wedding Crashers: I defy you to find a guy that didn’t enjoy this movie. If someone says they didn’t, they’re lying.  It’s right up there with Old School and Anchorman in terms of re-watchability.  On a sidenote, crashing a wedding is not as easy as it appears to be in the movie. Found that one out the hard way.

American Wedding: Sure, the American Pie series had overstayed it’s welcome by the time this one came around. But, that opening scene at the restaurant is always good for a few laughs. Plus, there are some valuable lessons to be learned from this film…particularly if you have a friend like Stifler – don’t let him be in charge of keeping the wedding bands safe.

The Groomsmen: Edward Burns gives a solid performance. The issues in this film are ones that most men can probably relate to. It’s definitely a dialogue driven movie, but worth checking out if you haven’t seen it.

Bride of Chucky: Chucky is a misunderstood villain. All he ever wanted was to find love. Bride of Chucky is the story of the search for that love. This heartfelt tale should make for a romantic evening for two.

Am I forgetting anything? Let us know what other guy wedding movies are out there.

Groom-Friendly Wedding Showers: Stock the Bar Shower

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Looking for a wedding shower that both the groom and bride can get excited about? Look no further than the bar shower. Whether the engaged couple already has a bar in their home, plan to have one, or simply enjoy entertaining guests – a bar shower is a great way to include the groom and other guys in the pre-wedding festivities.

This is a great shower for groomsmen or friends of the groom to organize. First, think about the types of bar gifts the shower should include. For example, is the shower being thrown to help stock the couple’s bar with barware gifts (such as wine, beer, martini, margarita, brandy or champagne glasses), utensils and accessories (such as wine and beer bottle openers, wine racks, jiggers, martini shakers or drink recipe books) or liquor only? We recommend including all of the above.

Next, think about the invitations. Make sure to include the theme of the shower someplace on the invitation, so guests will know what kind of gifts are appropriate. If guests will be bringing liquor, you may even want to call the guests that have accepted ahead of time to let them know what type of liquor to bring. Otherwise, the couple may end up with seven bottles of scotch. While this may not be a problem for some couples, others may prefer a slightly more diversified bar. If the gifts will include other bar items, it’s helpful if the couple has already registered for some options.

What about guests? This type of couples shower easily lends itself to the wedding party and friends of the couple, but can also include close family members and extended relatives. This type of shower is usually held during evening hours, so refreshments can include drinks and hors d’oeuvres rather than a full meal.

GroomsAdvice Tip: What could be better than a shower that brings together friends, good liquor and plenty of bar gifts? Not only is this a great way to stock the couple’s bar, it’s also a great opportunity for some of the couple’s friends who don’t already know each other to meet in a fun, relaxed atmosphere before the wedding.
