The Cure for the Common Bridezilla

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Grooms are always asking us how to identify and treat a bridezilla. First, let’s evaluate some of the common warning signs:

  • - Bridesmaids and groomsmen drop out of wedding party for fear of having to deal with her.
  • - She fires and/or cusses out multiple wedding vendors.
  • - She spends more than 15 hours per week reading wedding blogs.
  • - Her dress has been sent in for alterations 12 times (and she’s only had it for a month).
  • - She tried to un-invite the GROOM from the wedding.
  • - Her computer’s homepage is now your Crate and Barrel registry page.
  • - She looks anything like the picture below:

Up until now, treatment methods for bridezilla have been widely unsuccessful. However that is all about to change with the announcement of a medical breakthrough called Zilla Pills. The recently patented pill has stunned many brilliant minds in the pharmaceutical industry and is now available for purchase over-the-counter in the US.

Zilla Pills work like this:

  • - Bridezillas can take 1 pill every four hours (take 2 for an extra pissy episode).
  • - Bridezilla should return to normal within 5 minutes of dose.
  • - Zilla Pills can be shared with members of the bridal party, mother-of-the-bride or even the groom if they’re showing signs of pre-wedding stress.
  • - Zilla pills can be refilled an unlimited number of times up to the wedding day.

Bridezillas who participated in the clinical trials for Zilla Pills reported a 100% success rate and said that the pills tasted a lot like mints. Hmmm.

Tips to Help your Bride Avoid a Wedding Meltdown

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

BravoBride is a popular online marketplace where brides and newlyweds can buy and sell new and pre-owned wedding items, from designer wedding dresses and jewelry to shoes, favors, reception items and more. The company’s founder, Susan Shapiro is here with some tips on maintaining wedding sanity.

You may have seen TV shows where the bride has succumbed to wedding pressure and is busy screaming at her bridesmaids while crying about the fact that she doesn’t like her wedding bouquet and her dress is too tight. Hopefully your bride won’t have a meltdown this extreme but most brides are normal women who become a bit wedding-crazed. Don’t worry guys, it won’t last forever but here are a few tips to keep your bride happy during the wedding planning process.

Try to help with the wedding planning, even if it’s just a little
I love my husband dearly but wedding planning was not on the top of his list of fun things to do. I realize this is the case for most men. It’s understandable that talking about flowers, wedding colors and what your groomsmen will wear isn’t nearly as exciting as watching football on Sunday. One great way to help your bride feel less stressed is to show some interest in the wedding. The wedding process can be a frustrating and overwhelming experience if your fiancée feels like she’s doing everything herself. When one of our friends was getting married they scheduled one night a week, every week, for wedding planning. Not only can you really focus on the wedding but it also helps prevent you from talking about it all the time. Little things like this will take some of the stress off your bride and let her know that you realize how special and important your big day really is.

Famous last word: "It's just a dress."

Famous last words: "It's just a dress."

Don’t ever tell your bride that her wedding dress is just a dress
The wedding dress is one of the most important parts of the wedding and it is probably the biggest clothing decision your fiancée will ever make in her life. Because of this she may be stressed about the expense of her dream gown. Encourage her to visit websites that sell pre-owned wedding gowns where she can find a designer dress at a fraction of the price. If your bride decides she doesn’t like her gown and wants to buy another one or if she’s having a nervous breakdown because her seamstress didn’t alter it correctly, she’s not crazy, she’s just on wedding overload. Advise her to take a step back and realize no matter what happens she will be a gorgeous bride.

Give your bride some encouragement
As your wedding date draws closer your fiancée may be closer to having a wedding meltdown. Make sure to let her know that all her planning is appreciated. You can do this by simply cooking a meal, taking her out for dinner or just saying a simple thank you. Thoughtful things like that can mean so much.

She won’t always be Bridezilla
Planning a wedding is unlike any other party you’ve ever thrown. The stress of a wedding might make your fiancée act like she never has before. Don’t worry, she hasn’t completely lost her mind, she’s just a bride and it will pass. After the cake has been cut and the wedding flowers have wilted, she’ll be back to her old self in no time. Then you can finally go back to watching the game without talking about the wedding.

6 Tips on Dealing with Bridezilla

Friday, December 19th, 2008

Is that blissful stage of your engagement diminishing by the second and the reality of planning a wedding finally kicking in? The beautiful angelic glow your bride-to-be possessed early on, has transformed to the glisten of sweat and tear?

So, how can you help lower the anxiety level for your bride? The most important thing to do is to continuously let your lady know that she is not alone! Emphasize that you are in this wedding together and that she need not carry the “burden” of planning all by herself. On that note, here are some suggestions to help ease the planning pains for your bride-to-be!

Shut up and listen guys!

Shut up and listen guys!

Listen, Just Listen – Your sweetie will want to vent about her troubles. Just straight up, zip it and don’t say a word unless you’re asked a question. This may be a difficult task, especially if you want to give her advice…but, really, just listen! Your time to share words of wisdom can come later.

Signed, Sealed and Delivered - Go out and buy your honey a thank-you card! Thank her for all the hard work and late nights she’s putting into planning your wedding. It’s simple but so expressive, and you know us girls like that! All you have to do is sign it, seal it and deliver it! When she gets it in the mail, your babe will have a big smile on her face, and for at least a moment, she’ll be relieved of wedding planning stress.

Swedish or Thai – Massages are a favorite stress level reducer for just about anyone. But go one step further and make the appointment for her. Whether it’s a foot, hand, back or full body, this special treat will rejuvenate her senses and her spirit!

Plan a movie night to get her mind off of wedding planning

Time away - Dedicate one day a week to “NO WEDDING PLANNING!” Do something completely non-wedding related on the chosen night! Emphasize that taking a step back is quite healthy and can actually help her focus better!

She Needs her Girls – Make reservations at her favorite spot for her and her bestest girlfriends! She’ll LOVE you for recognizing that thought you’re getting married, she’ll always need her girlfriends!

Be THE MAN power - So, this one is the most obvious of all tips. Offer help as much as possible. Take on the task of creating and maintaining your wedding website. Offer to pick things up for her. Assemble invitations, party favors, gift bags, or any other DIY project your fiancee is taking on.

There may be times when she’ll want to bite your head off for trying so hard to be there for her. But, when all is said and done…and you’re talking about the wedding and the planning and the hardships…you’ll be at the top of her rewards list!
