What is the Guest List 75% Rule?
A common piece of advice given to couples is that you can safely over-invite guests to your wedding because on average only 75% will accept.
There are a lot of factors to consider when trying to determine how many invited guests will attend.
1. Are most of the guests out of town or in town? If in-town, more will attend.
2. Did you send out Save the Dates? If so, this will also increase your acceptance rate.
3. Is it in the summer? People are much more likely to already have plans in the summer, this can decrease your acceptance.
4. Winter? Bad weather area? Few people are going to be excited about traveling to northern Minnesota in the winter, on the other hand, a lot of people may go out of their way to make it to a Florida wedding.
Personally, I think the safer way to go is to invite only the guests you want. Send out Save the Dates, and send invitations 8-9 weeks before the wedding. If you get substantial “nos” in the first few weeks, you can safely send invitations to a “B List” 5-6 weeks before the wedding, without risking insulting them.
