It always looks good in the commercials. The unsuspecting girl opens just one last gift and surprise, surprise, it’s an engagement ring! She cries, hugs the guy and they live happily ever after.
Christmas proposals make a great story, but do they add to the holiday stress?
Except, I don’t think it always works out that way. Despite what the commercials tell us, the holidays can actually be pretty stressful. The last thing you want is to hear “Yes, I’ll marry you, now can you please put your coat on, we were due at my mom’s an hour ago, then we have to get to your stepmother’s.” Adding the stress of a surprise proposal and the commencement of wedding planning in with normal holiday stress might make things a little less merry than you like. Consider really surprising her and proposing a few days ahead of time. Make the announcement of the engagement the holiday surprise.
